“What is stopping us from living the life we want” is one of the most frequently asked questions. Many people are suffering from various things that prevent them from living the life they want. There are times when people think they have to put their life on hold or probably give up on their dreams they’ve had planned for several years.

Living the life we want should be our number one goal but people may be influenced by a number of factors. These factors may include family, peer pressure, work-related complications, depression, self-doubt, and many more. While this may be the case for several individuals, it is still important that we address some issues that may be stopping us from living the life we want for ourselves.

Here is a list of what we think might be stopping people from living the life they want:

1. Self-doubt

A person is said to have self-doubt when they feel incapable or lack confidence in handling their daily affairs. People with self-doubt commonly express indecision concerning things beyond their control or bother about things not going as they would expect.

This can be divided into four different parts, which are:

  • Living your life on people opinions

This occurs when an individual discards their values, opinions, and beliefs because they think others are always right. Although it is good to listen to other people’s opinions, not everyone has your best interest at heart, so it is best to minimize people’s influence in your life. It is also okay to keep an open mind but not at the risk of your well-being.

  • Being too modest

In the circle of relationships or at workplaces, people tend to pick on a person that is too modest. A modest person is someone that accepts anything and everything that’s given to them even though they deserve more. If this continues to happen to the unfortunate person, he or she might get fed up or unsatisfied with their life. Please don’t get this wrong, it is good to be modest, but it also more beneficial to know your worth.

  • Being too hard on yourself

By always overdoing things to make people like you, being scared of what they might say or do, and even finding it hard to forgive yourself after a mistake can be likened to dying twice. These are all characters of a person being too hard on themselves.

The people that fall into this category may find that they are always blaming themselves for everything that goes wrong in their life, which shouldn’t be the case. They need to know that life is a mystery, and no one knows what will happen next. Instead of making themselves their worst enemies and making life harder, they should accept life for what it is.

  • Being judgmental on yourself based on the way people see you

People tend to judge you on various things you do, and some go as far as giving you labels according to their perspectives and beliefs. You don’t have to provide them with a reply. You only need to just be you for you.

It is imperative that you don’t live up to their expectation when they put pressure on you or change who you are because this would only kill your self-esteem. The best thing to do is experience growth, worry less, and live your life because regardless of what you do, they will always judge.

2. Being around toxic friends

Toxic friends have been known to drag people’s lives down to their lowest. They make you believe that you are close to nothing, then they push you to make wrong decisions at the worst possible time. You will always feel alone or misunderstood around them because you don’t share the same values, ideas, opinions, or even the same view on life with them.

The best thing to do is to distance yourself from such people and wait till you find people with the same way of thinking, values, and ideals. People who value you, support, and understand you are people you should be friends with. The best set of friends are the ones you can freely share ideas with and also assist you when you are going through a tough time.

3. Bad habits of not letting go

The art of letting go has been one of the best ways of living the life you want with peace of mind. It helps a person let go of bad things or whatever is hurting them. Dwelling in the past may cause some psychological problems that leave the person in a pattern of negative thoughts.

Negative thinking overshadows the good things that are happening around the person. The person wouldn’t be able to differentiate between blessings and an everyday event.

4. The feeling of not being able to control or change your life

This is especially typically when an individual is having a challenging life or probably have no idea on how to control their life. Not having a plan at the moment does not mean things would remain the same forever.

You can always find other and better ways to change your life. Trust me, it will start slow at first, but with time things will change, doors will open, and you get closer to the life you have always dreamed of.

5. Quitting too easy

Another reason why some people face challenges that hinders them from living the life they want is that they quit rather too easily. They prefer not to make an effort to correct or change their mistakes when something goes wrong in their life or business.

living the life

This probably occurs because they don’t have the courage to face the challenges they are met with, which later turns into a habit. Facing and overcoming challenges, no matter how hard or how many times you try, is a process of self-growth.

In summary, nothing should stop an individual from living the life they chose for themselves. They shouldn’t let anything influence their daily life routine. A person who is looking to live the life they want can incorporate fun into their daily routine. Doing healthy, fun stuff can help to take the edge off.
